SUMMARY
Time management is one of the biggest hurdles students will have to face while at university. Effective organization and time management are vital to academic success- here are some tips to help get you started!

Top Five Tips:

  1. Plan out your semester
Get a four-month calendar to plan out your term (available from the UBC bookstore). Write down the dates of term papers, midterms, presentations, and any other important academic dates.
  2. Organize your week in detail
Use a weekly planner to map out how you will accomplish your weekly tasks. Use the Assignment Calculator for help with setting milestones for your papers.
  3. Work hard, play hard, sleep hard!
Plan activities according to your Energy Cycle. Take advantage of times when you are at your best!
  4. Even a little study time helps…
Maximize your time by studying between classes, on the bus, etc. Even 5 minutes of reading/studying is better than none!
  5. Quality, AND quantity!
Use the wedging technique (video) as recommended by McMaster University, to beat procrastination and make the best use of your time.
